What’s in store for the Amakhosi in terms of its contract-expiring players?
A former Kaizer Chiefs defender has expressed his opinion on the significance of two Amakhosi players whose contracts expire in June.
After their previous contracts with the Soweto giants expired in June 2021, both Lebogang Manyama and Ramahlwe Mphahlele signed new ones with them. They were granted one-year contracts with the option to renew for a second season.
Manyama has been plagued by injuries in recent years, limiting his playing time in the previous year or two. Meanwhile, Mphahlele has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.
Manyama has appeared in seven games for the Soweto giants this season, starting only one of them, against Marumo Gallants.
Mphahlele has made four appearances for the club this season, netting one assist in the process.
Former Chiefs defender Isaac Mabotsa informed the Siya crew that these players should be vital to the team’s success.
“If you look closely, these are older players.” They are disciplined, which I admire, and I believe they have a lot to offer the younger members of the team. They didn’t play much, but Lebogang was clearly injured, as seen by the fact that they didn’t play much. Obviously, management will make the final decision, but they are crucial to the Chiefs,” the former Chiefs defender stated.
