Banyana Banyana recently won WAFCON, and as a result of their perseverance and hard work, they have been awarded bursaries to continue their education at a prestigious university like Unisa.
Ever since Banyana Banyana won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, blessings have been pouring in.
Their victory in Africa opened up new horizons for South African women’s football.
Banyana Banyana has been blessed with bursaries to further their education by University of South Africa, which has also dug deep into its pockets in recognition of their hard-won victory in putting South Africa on the map.
The university announced on Friday night that Banyana’s valiant victory in WAFCON had undoubtedly earned them bursaries to enroll in the programs of their choice.
“The University of South Africa(Unisa) has decided to grant WAFCON champions Banyana Banyana bursary opportunities to pursue study programs of their choice and continue to shape their future to a better tomorrow.” Said Unisa in a statement.
“In recognition of their historic achievement, Unisa will make available a special bursary programme for the 23 players in accordance with the university admission policies. The offer, whose terms and conditions will be communicated to the potential recipients, is effective from January 2023.”
In addition, Unisa hoped that by awarding Banyana Banyana a bursary, it would encourage the next generation to participate in sports.
“We hope that in the same way that Banyana have inspired the nation, this small gesture will inspire young girls and boys to believe in sport, virtues of discipline and excellence, and that there are long-term benefits and rewards associated with such virtues.” A statement concluded.
The specifics of the formal handover ceremony will be announced by Unisa to SAFA leadership and the general public over the coming days.
