Orlando Pirates wing-back move: PSL Club leading transfer race

The transfer battle for Orlando Pirates wing-back signature intensifies as two PSL clubs vie for the player’s services.

Orlando Pirates wing-back is in a high stakes transfer battle with SuperSport United leading the race currently, according to Soccer Laduma. SuperSport is making a strong play to sign Bandile Shandu, outbidding Chippa United in an intense transfer tug-of-war. With Shandu’s contract set to expire at the end of June. Matsatsantsa is pushing to secure the versatile player’s signature.

“Chippa United were the first to show interest in him, but at the moment, SuperSport United are leading the race to get Shandu,” a source revealed.

Sources close to the player and clubs reveal SuperSport has taken the lead in negotiations. They have inquired about the Orlando Pirates wing-back Shandu’s contractual status with Orlando Pirates. While Pirates have yet to confirm their intentions with the player. SuperSport remains vigilant and aware that the Soweto giants could still opt to extend Shandu’s stay.

“The thing is, currently, he could be considered a free agent, but Pirates haven’t stated that they don’t want to renew his contract yet. They are taking their time, and since he is at the team, they could renew at any time,” the source added.

A second source highlights Shandu’s desire for regular playing time as a key factor in his potential move. At 29, Shandu is eager to maintain his playing form and secure a starting spot. His contributions at Pirates have been inconsistent. Featuring in just eight games this season with two goals and one assist.

“This could work for Bandile (Shandu) because he wants to play regularly now. As he is growing older, he needs to keep on playing. But as I said earlier, it will all depend on Pirates. Yes, his contract expires at the end of the month. But that doesn’t mean they can’t renew it. They have the first option, and only when they decide to let him go, that other clubs can sign him. But for him as a player, he would like to move,” the second source stated.

As the transfer window progresses, Shandu’s next move will be closely watched. SuperSport United is poised to add Shandu’s experience and versatility to their squad, pending Pirates’ final decision on his contract. Will Shandu opt for a new challenge like Sergio Almenara or remain at Pirates? Only time will tell.

“That’s what happened with players like Thabang Monare, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Ben Motshwari, and Richard Ofori last season. They renewed when the season was about to start, but Motshwari still left,” the source concluded.
