Kaizer Chiefs’ rumoured plans to swap Dumisani Zuma for one of Stellenbosch FC’s on form players may have been scuppered by recent events.

‘There Were 71 Major Incidents In Bafana/Ghana Game’

The Siya crew reported the Glamour Boys were contemplating revisiting their interest in Ashley Du Preez, currently the leading goal scorer for Stellies, having been linked with him before.

Du Preez himself said it was his dream to one day play for Amakhosi.

Chiefs were believed to have put the young striker on their radar when their FIFA ban was lifted in July, but their hopes were dashed by comments from Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker that the club had no interest selling any of their assets to Gauteng teams.

According to Siya sources inside Naturena, there has been informal discussions about testing Stellies again, this time with the possibility of Zuma going the other way!

But that plan could fall flat following the decision taken by Chiefs to suspend the attacker from all club activities after he was confirmed to have been arrested and released on bail while allegedly under the influence.

Amakhosi are still investigating, and have confirmed that Zuma will be subjected to an internal hearing, although this does not suggest he is guilty.

It’s not clear how long this matter will take to resolve, and would have put the player on blast for possible disciplinary issues.

Zuma, however, remains contracted to Chiefs until June 2023, so the club could still cash in on his services if the decision is to offload him in order to try target Du Preez.

The Siya crew will keep a close watch on developments regarding both Zuma and the future of Du Preez, especially seeing as the transfer window will reopen in January.
