Stuart Baxter Hit On Njabulo Ngcobo

Njabulo Ngcobo must demonstrate to Stuart Baxter that he is the greatest central defender at the Naturena-based club, according to Baxter.

When it was pointed out to Baxter that Ngcobo is unhappy playing in midfield and believes he is better suited at centre-back, Baxter stated that he was playing him where he was best suited (Baxter feels he is more suited as he is not the best centre-back they have).

“Ngcobo has the worst burns I’ve ever seen on a player, he hasn’t been training, he wasn’t selectable for this game, and he won’t be for a long time,” Baxter remarked.

Chiefs were defeated 1-0 by TS Galaxy on Saturday, knocking them out of the Nedbank Cup. Ngcobo was out with a serious burn.

“If he wants to play at center back, he’ll play there if he’s the greatest center back we have.” He isn’t playing right now, so I’ve moved him to center midfield. I believe he wants to play wherever he is requested, as he has indicated to me.

“I’m sure his first choice is center back, but he needs to show that he’s the best candidate for the job.” He’s had a few injuries and has been up and down in his first season at Kaizer Chiefs, so it hasn’t been easy for him.

“I’m not going to rush him.” I’ll try to assess him over time, and it would benefit him if he didn’t have a 12-inch burn that has ripped his skin off and left him unable to walk. It would be beneficial for him to demonstrate at training that he is deserving of a spot.”

Baxter started Cardoso and Austin Dube at center-back at the weekend, with Mathoho on the bench.

The powerful running attack of the Rockets revealed Amakhosi’s defensive flaws in the Nedbank Cup match against TS Galaxy.

It will be interesting to see how Baxter prepares his players for their next match, a DStv Premiership match against Cape Town City, which takes place this evening in the Mother City.
