Senzo Meyiwa trial: This is the person suspected to be the mastermind in killing the soccer star

AfriForum’s legal head, Advocate Gerrie Nel, said at the Pretoria High Court today (11 April) that the “mastermind” behind the murder of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa is now “known to police”…but Tweeps are convinced fingers are pointing in the direction of Longwe Twala.

The prosecutor made the revelation in court, after the murder trial for the five suspects in the Senzo Meyiwa case got underway.

Former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa was said to have been killed in an armed robbery. The alleged armed robbery took place at the house of Senzo’s then-girlfriend singer Kelly Khumalo on 26 October 2014.

The soccer star’s murder eight years ago, has become the topic of the five-part investigative Netflix documentary series Senzo: Murder of a Soccer Star.

The documentary points out many loopholes in the story of those who were inside the house at the time. So, who was in the house?

– Kelly
– Her sister Zandie,
– Their mother Ntombi
– Zandi’s boyfriend Longwe Twala
– Meyiwa’s friends Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala

The theory of Longwe Twala being accused of killing Senzo was explored in the documentary. Longwe, the son of South African musician Chicco Twala, was dating Kelly’s sister Zandie at the time. He allegedly suspected that she was cheating.

A Tweep who goes by the handle Man’s Not Barry Roux claimed that Zandie and Longwe got into a fight. Senzo allegedly tried to protect her and Longwe shot him. Senzo’s sister said that Kelly had called her and told her that Longwe and Senzo got into a fight, that night.

Tweeps were further suspicious of Longwe when he told two versions of the story. He first said that he ran out of the house but he did not have his phone on him to call for help at the time.

However, in another interview, Longwe said the robbers could not take his phone because he had it with him when he ran out. Chicco has been accused of paying people to cover up for his son.

The latest on the case is that the Nel says police know who the “mastermind” behind the murder is. The case has also been delayed for 24 hours. So, social media users took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Twitter users seem to believe Longwe is guilty and Nel is “being bought”. Tweeps also think the stories from interviews contradict each other.
