Orlando Pirates offer Stellies shock player in swap deal for key star!

Orlando Pirates are believed to be ready to sacrifice one of their promising players in order to secure a long-term Stellenbosch FC target!

Orlando Pirates are ready to strengthen their squad ahead of what could be a very demanding 2024/25 season.

Two weeks ago, they wasted no time in releasing six players in the aftermath of their Nedbank Cup trophy win.

Souaibou Marou, Fortune Makaringe, Kermit Erasmus, Richard Ofori, Thabang Monare and Siyabonga Mpontshane were all released by Pirates. Those being players who have seen their deals at expire at the club, with management deeming them surplus to requirements. There are still players who are under contract who could be loaned out, sold or see their deals terminated at the Houghton-based outfit.

Now as that clear out is set to continue, it is subsequently time for incomings. It is thought that the club has already secured midfield duo Thalente Mbatha and Selaelo Rasbotja from SuperSport United. One position that Pirates are believed to be intent on strengthening, however, remains that of the right-back. They currently have the likes of Bandile ShanduThabiso Monyane and Thabiso Lebitso as natural options. The left-footed Paseka Mako has also played there to good effect in the past.

In their attempts to add quality in that position, it’s believed that Pirates are ready to make a shock sacrifice. According to KickOff.com they’re willing to swap Monyane for Stellenbosch FC captain Deano van Rooyen!

“KickOff can reveal that Stellenbosch FC are targeting an Orlando Pirates defender as part of a swap deal that could see their captain Deano van Rooyen joining the Buccaneers next season. Pirates are edging closer to signing Van Rooyen in a bid to reinforce their defence for next season. Now, Pirates are believed to have offered Thabiso Monyane to Stellies as part of a swap deal that could see Van Rooyen moving in the opposition direction next season.” Wrote the publication.

Furthermore, a source speaking on the same publication gave context to a possible Pirates-Stellies swap on Monyane and van Rooyen.

“Pirates are desperate to sort out their right back position. The club has approached Stellenbosch for the services of Deano (Van Rooyen). Stellies have also been interested in Monyane since last season and there could be a swap deal on the cards,” said the source.

Pirates fans, would you approve of losing a promising talent like Monyane, albeit it means getting the established van Rooyen?
