Orlando Pirates set to sign former Kaizer Chiefs star.
A recently axed Kaizer Chiefs star could soon find himself at arch rivals Orlando Pirates!
According to reports, the Buccaneers have identified Nigerian international Daniel Akpeyi as a worthy goalkeeper signing in Mayfair.
Akpeyi, who’s a high quality shot-stopper in his own right was deemed surplus to requirements at Naturena ahead of next season.
And now, according to reports the former Kaizer Chiefs keeper is drawing serious interest from Orlando Pirates.
The Buccaneers have parted ways with Wayne Sandilands, opening the door for another solid goalkeeper in Mayfair.
“It is possible that he (Akpeyi) might end up at Orlando Pirates.” a source told Citizen regarding the ex Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper.
“Chances are high but the only problem is that Pirates have an international goalkeeper in Richard Ofori and Daniel wants to play.
“I don’t think he will just go there and become their number one. That makes it a bit tricky for him. (former Kaizer Chiefs and Nigeria keeper).
“But they have made enquiries about him because they are looking at strengthening their goalkeeping department after Wayne Sandilands left.
“Orlando Pirates is not the only team, there is also Swallows, Sekhukhune and SuperSport.
“He is one of the best keepers in the PSL and it was a shock to see Kaizer Chiefs letting him go.
“Especially since he is an international keeper. Right now he has been training alone and keeping fit while his people are still sorting his next move.”
Kaizer Chiefs may soon find themselves facing their former goalkeeper in the next Soweto derby.
