Orlando Pirates secured the signature of top player.

Orlando Pirates look to set hijack the transfer for Lamontville Golden Arrows winger Pule Mmodi.

Mmodi was heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs a few months ago but by the look of things Pirates are now leading the race to sign the speedy winger.

The 29-year-old joined Arrows in October 2020 from the Uthongathi FC and has made 75 appearances for the club since, scoring 14 goals, however, his contract is running out by the end of June.

Pule Mmodi to Naturena had been trending for months. However as reported by nmmabunda media rivals Orlando Pirates are now leading the race to land the Golden Arrows ace.

New reports suggest that Pirates didn’t exactly ‘steal’ Mmodi from the hand’s of their rivals. It was actually a case of the Glamour Boys turning down the option of signing him!

“Chiefs is out of the race in Pule Mmodi chase,” an insider told SoccerLaduma.

“I know this for a fact because Kaizer Chiefs were contacted this week about the availability of the player but they said they are not interested.

“A top official from Chiefs said the club has no interest in Mmodi because they are covered in his position.

“That left the player with no choice but to assess his other options hence the big possibility to sign for Pirates.”

Knowing the history between the two clubs when it comes to players transfer this won’t be a surprise move after we’ve seen the likes of Siyabonga Sangweni, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thamsanqa Gabuza moving from Arrows to the Buccaneers.
The attacking midfielder has been instrumental for the KwaZulu Natal-based side, having made 14 league appearances this season, scored on four occasions and assisting once. Per  Sinethemba Makonco
