Orlando Pirates are set to complete the signing of Former Kaizer Chiefs player.

Matsheke seemed to be progressing well following his move to Stellies in October after being released by his boyhood club, Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi released Matsheke in August 2023 after he spent last season on loan at Moroka Swallows and the previous one in the second tier with Uthongathi.

He was promoted to the Kaizer Chiefs senior team during Gavin Hunt’s time at Naturena. Matsheke made 12 appearances in his debut season – including the CAF Champions League, in which Amakhosi reached the final.

When Stellies signed him, he was on the verge of joining Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Casric Stars. Exactly two months after arriving at the Cape Winelands side, Matsheke scored the winning penalty to help Stellies clinch the inaugural Carling Knockout title at TS Galaxy’s expense.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the club is taking disciplinary action against the 25-year-old.

“There was a disciplinary issue at the club, and when it was addressed, he complained about lack of game time. He accused the coach of having favourites in the team. I suppose it’s at that stage that the club considered letting him go,” one of the sources told FARPost.

“He could have come clean and apologised for the disciplinary issue. Instead, he accused the coach of showing signs of favouritism.”

If the club axes him, he will become the second former Chiefs player to be released after a short spell. Just last month, Stellies confirmed that the club had parted ways with Kgaogelo Sekgota with immediate effect. He joined the club at the start of the season and made 17 appearances across all competitions.
