Despite Njabulo Blom enduring a poor spell of form at Kaizer Chiefs, indications are that the player’s representatives have engaged the club regarding a new and improved deal.

The highly-rated versatile player was dropped from the Amakhosi starting line-up for the Maritzburg United United league clash and didn’t feature against Cape Town City and Stellenbosch in the MTN8 quarterfinal recently.

And as reported by the Siya crew in the latest issue of Soccer Laduma, it remains unclear whether the failure to come to an agreement in the early contract negotiations has contributed to Blom’s below-par performance, but the player has explained how he deals with critics.

“To be quite honest, I think now that I’ve played for like three seasons for the team, I’m aware that Kaizer Chiefs is a big team, and when you tend to not perform, that’s what you get from the fans because they love the team,” said Blom in a press conference posted on Kaizer Chiefs’ YouTube channel.

“So, it’s something that obviously I’m used to it now, I know how to control it, and some of the comments help me a lot to come back stronger.”

Amakhosi deemed Blom’s new package demands as “way too high” with sources stating that the Soweto-born star “needs to show more commitment if he wants to secure a contract extension.”

Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane did mention that Blom was dropped due to his poor performance, insisting that the defender can do better with competition for places high at the Soweto giants.

The 22-year-old is a Chiefs development product and has impressed in the first team since his promotion in 2019.
