Missing 5-year-old boy found brutally murdered. A police officer said that in all his years of service he had never come across such a horrific crime scene.

Residents in Amahlongwa near Umkomaas in KwaZulu-Natal have been left shocked at the discovery of the body of five-year-old Bandile Mbele, who had gone missing on the evening of February 27.

The boy had suffered head injuries and his eyes were gouged out.

According to a family spokesperson, Njabulo Mbele, Bandile had disappeared just after 18:00 on Sunday.

The family and community members quickly spread out in the neighbourhood in search of the boy. However, the search for the child proved fruitless. The search continued the next day.

In the afternoon, the family was informed that a body had been found in a nearby bush, not far from the Mbele home.

Mbele said he was able to identify his nephew and was shocked at the gruesome sight.

He described Bandile as an outgoing and popular child, known to everyone in the area. A police officer said that in all his years of service he had never come across such a horrific crime scene.

Local government officials, accompanied by social workers of the Department of Social Development visited the family to pay their respects and offer assistance to the Mbele family.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that the boy was reported missing to the Umkomaas police after going out to play with friends.

On Monday at 16:00 his body was found by some boys who went hunting with their dogs in the bushes.

A case of murder was opened for investigation.

Two suspects have been arrested thus far, and the investigation is ongoing.
