Jesse Lingard, a Manchester United midfielder, was the victim of ‘away-day robbers’ who broke into his home while he was playing against Aston Villa.

A gang of robbers allegedly stole more than £100,000 worth of clothes and jewelry from his £3 million home, according to The Sun. At the time, Manchester United was playing Aston Villa away, so no one was at home when the incident occurred.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time something like this has occurred. Because the entire world is aware that footballers are in a specific location at a specific time, it is very easy for criminals to target these players. Not only do they know where they are, but they also know how much money they bring home, which often leads to expensive jewelry and clothing that the burglars can take.

Victor Lindelof was also targeted around the same time while away at Brentford, prompting the club to hire a 24-hour security team to patrol the players’ homes. Unfortunately, they won’t be able to guard each home without hiring private security.

With all of the money footballers make, hiring security to accompany them to away games may be their only option. Because the club cannot afford to hire security for each individual house, the players must be considering their own security.
