Jali’s Mamelodi Sundowns contract saga: Is he Kaizer Chiefs bound?

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and KwaZulu-Natal-based side AmaZulu have already made initial inquiries on the availability of former Bafana Bafana midfielder Andile Jali.

Jali’s contract with the Brazilians is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

According to a source close to a potential deal, both Cape Town City and Royal AM are also showing a keen interest in Jali.

“Jali is still yet to extend with Mamelodi Sundowns. It’s a huge concern with just three months remaining on his current deal at Sundowns,”‘ the source revealed

“There are four clubs showing huge interest in signing him being Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu, Cape Town City and Royal AM.”

“Remaining at Sundowns is believed to be his first preference, but the club is delaying the offer of a new contract.”

Amakhosi are understood to be looking at the former Orlando Pirates midfielder as a replacement for the departed Njabulo Blom.

With Amazulu having lost an experienced campaigner in Makhehleni Makhaula before the end of the January transfer window, the club is understood to have identified the reigning PSL Midfielder of the Season as their ideal replacement.

Despite his bright 2021/2022 campaign that saw him being nominated for five PSL awards at the end of the season, Jali has seen a decline in his game time in this campaign having made 12 appearances in the Dstv Premiership.

Meanwhile, the Matatiele born player had posted on Twitter to show his gratitude to senior coach Steve Khomphela on Thursday. Is this a hint that Jali’s days at Sundowns are numbered?

The 32-year-old moved to Masandawana in June 2018 from Belgian side KV Oostende, for whom he made 115 league appearances in total, scoring two goals and providing six assists.
