Mamelodi Sundowns open formal talks for Kobamelo Kodisang transfer.

Mamelodi Sundowns are edging closer to signing winger Kobamelo Kodisang, with SABC Sport told formal talks have begun over a club to club agreement.

The 24-year-old is still contracted to Portuguese topflight outfit Moreirense and will have to be bought out of the current agreement to seal a transfer back to the Premier Soccer League [PSL], where he last played for Bidvest Wits in 2019.

With Sundowns offloading two attacking players in Gaston Sirino and Junior Mendieta there’s a need to strengthen the team.

It’s not the first time Kodisang, who has played for South Africa at both junior and international level, is linked with a possible move back to his native country – Kaizer Chiefs made an attempt more than a year ago.

However, it’s understood the Soweto giants felt the asking price from his then club Braga was a little over what the Glamour Boys were prepared to pay.

That has hardly ever been an issue for Sundowns though, and the fact that all parties involved are in discussions at the moment indicates the willingness to get the deal over the line before the start of the 2024/25 season early next month.

According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, Sundowns are eager to have Kodisang travel to Austria for the pre-season camp on July 18 where they have lined up a couple of friendly matches.

Downs are not shy to spend– the club paid a combined R80 million rands in January alone for wingers Tashreeq Matthews and Mathias Esquivel to bring them on board from Sweden and South America, respectively.

There is still time to negotiate for Kodisang to move with the PSL transfer window only scheduled to close on 20 September.
