Mamelodi Sundowns closing in on Bafana Bafana central midfielder
Mamelodi Sundowns are in talks to sign Thabo Nodada from Cape Town City.
After their most recent signing from the Citizens when Bradley Ralani made the switch in January, the Brazilians are keen to lure another high-profile player from the Mother City outfit, with sources confirming that talks have been opened for Nodada’s potential move in this transfer window.
For the past six years, Nodada has been a top performer and one of the consistent players for City, and as a result, Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have been sniffing around in pursuit of the player’s signature.
Nodada is one of the top central midfielders in the DStv Premiership and is one of City’s most prized assets, who previously attempted to sell the player in Europe, although injury put a hold on scheduled overseas trials last year.
Since then, City have been willing to listen to local offers for Nodada if potential suitors are ready to meet the requirements of the Cape club’s evaluation of the player.
Nodada made 26 appearances in City’s impressive league campaign which ended in the team qualifying for the CAF Champions League after finishing second on the log behind Sundowns, a feat that has impressed the Chloorkop outfit about the Ixopo-born star.
The 27-year-old was also instrumental as City went all the away to the final of the MTN8 where they lost to Sundowns.
“Sundowns is interested in Thabo Nodada and is trying to sign him. The two clubs are in discussions about a transfer fee as the player is still contracted to Cape Town City,” said the source.
Nodada’s contract with the Citizens runs until June 2024 after the club’s last extension of the deal in February last year.
The talented-yet-humble player is one of the long-serving members of the City squad and one of the founding members of the club, having switched to Cape Town from Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2016 after the purchase of the club’s topflight status
