Mamelodi Sundowns are set to lose one of they star player to KZN based club.
Royal AM reportedly launched an ambitious bid to sign another Mamelodi Sundowns veteran before the start of the current season.
According to iDiski Times, Shauwn Mkhize’s club wanted to sign goalkeeper Denis Onyango so much so that they even submitted an official bid.
However, the publication reports that Onyango rejected the proposed bid to stay at Chloorkop where he is now playing second fiddle to Ronwen Williams.
Had Onyango agreed to the proposed deal, he would have reunited with former teammate at Sundowns in Ricardo Nascimento.
Nascimento left Sundowns at the start of last season after rejecting the club’s proposal for him to retire and take up a non-playing role within the club.
That was Sundowns’ attempt to create space for a number of foreign internationals they were bringing to the club.
But Nascimento felt he was still fit to play at the highest level of South African football, and Royal AM offered him that opportunity.
“iDiski Times has been informed that Denis Onyango was also on their radar and after an opening approach, the Uganda legend rebuffed their attempts ahead of 2022/23 season where he’s now been behind Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams in the pecking order.”
