Mamelodi Sundowns deal: CT City star forward close to signing!

Mamelodi Sundowns deal with new striker is edging closer. Someone that will help them win the CAF Champions League. Find out!

Mamelodi Sundowns are on the brink of clinching a deal for Cape Town City’s prolific forward, Khanyisa Mayo. Known for their policy of selling top talents each season, City might soon bid farewell to their standout striker.

Mayo, aged 25, has emerged as a prime target following his impressive performance in the 2023/2024 season. Where he secured fifth place on the top scorer charts with 10 goals. His stellar form has captured the attention of South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Last season, Mayo shared the top scorer title with Peter Shalulile, netting 12 goals, further amplifying interest from top clubs in Belgium and Major League Soccer. Although the Citizens secured Mayo with a lucrative five-year contract extension. The offers from sundry leagues have continued to swirl.

DETERMINED CITY STANCE

Despite interest from multiple fronts, Cape Town City has remained resolute in their stance on Mayo’s future in the past. Coach Eric Tinkler has repeatedly asserted that Mayo is integral to their plans, rebuffing advances from Sundowns and Chiefs.

But recent reports indicate that Mamelodi Sundowns are progressing towards securing Mayo’s services. Outpacing competing new interests from Orlando Pirates and international suitors.

“(Mamelodi) Sundowns is closing in on a striker from Cape Town City(Mayo) but Orlando Pirates are looking at him as well,” said the source.

MAYO VALUATION CHALLENGE

John Comitis, the chairman of Cape Town City, has set a valuation exceeding R30 million for Mayo, complicating negotiations with potential suitors like Club Brugge, who find the asking price steep.

“Khanyisa Mayo’s name has been discussed in Belgium at Club Brugge,”said a second source.

”The club has already made contact with Mayo’s representatives over a possible move for the next season. But the stumbling block at the moment is the asking price from Cape Town City.

“I think they are asking for something around R38 million, which Club Brugge feels is a bit too much. Strange things happen in football, don’t rule this one out. But also Brugge is competing with one of the high spenders in South Africa which is Mamelodi Sundowns.”

SUNDOWNS IN THE LEAD

Amidst all speculation, it’s clear that Mamelodi Sundowns have emerged as frontrunners in the pursuit of Khanyisa Mayo. Sources close to the negotiations suggest that a deal could be imminent. Signalling Mayo’s potential move to Sundowns for the upcoming season.

With this Mamelodi Sundowns deal edging closer to securing Khanyisa Mayo, all eyes are on Cape Town City as the transfer saga unfolds. Keep track of this developing story for the latest updates on Mayo’s next destination.
