Kaizer Chiefs defender facing premature exit?

A Kaizer Chiefs defender could find himself sold or have his contract terminated after failing to make an impact at the club.

Kaizer Chiefs are poised for a clear out at the end of the current season, with a squad overhaul mooted.

Chiefs are expected to announce a new coach, who will also be given the opportunity to bring some players.

But he will also have some big decisions to make with the current crop of players at the club. One of the biggest decisions he will have to make is deciding who stays and who goes. Keagan Dolly, Njabulo NgcoboSiyethemba SithebeEdmilson DoveGeorge MatlouSifiso Hlanti and Itumeleng Khune are in danger of leaving. But it is believed that it is not only the players out of contract at risk of leaving the club.

Players such as Mduduzi Mdantsane and Tebogo Potsane are also thought to be at a crossroads at Chiefs. One other player that was mentioned in the same breath earlier last season is defender Zitha Kwinika. The right-back-turned-centre back ended up losing his place in the starting line-up of the team two seasons ago before getting one or two lifelines at full back.

Last season has not been any better for Kwinika, with Chiefs signing two centre backs in the process. The likes of Given Msimango and Thatayaone Dithlokwe came straight into the starting line-up at his expense. On top of that, Reeve Frosler had commanded the right-back place whenever he has been fit this season. To further compound the former Stellenbosch FC man’s misery is the fact that Njabulo Ngcobo has been preferred as the rotation or substitute option ahead of him.

Now according to Soccer-Laduma, Chiefs could be ready to offload him ahead of time.

“The Siya crew has been led to believe that the future of Zitha Kwinika is currently hanging in the balance at Kaizer Chiefs, with a possibility of an exit. Chiefs are expected to have a big clear out of players now that the season is over. Kwinika, it’s understood, is one of the players they are willing to let go, with management not being fully convinced of his contribution over the last two seasons.” Wrote the publication.

It now remains to be seen when the new coach arrives at Chiefs, and what he will decide on Kwinika.
