Kaizer Chiefs miss out on one of overseas elite star.
With preparations for the 2022/23 season already in full swing, Chiefs have undergone a significant squad restructuring under head coach Arthur Zwane. The new season is set to start on Saturday, 6 August with the MTN8 , while the DStv Premiership is set to kick off off on Friday, 12 August . The GladAfrica Championship season will start the weekend thereafter on Saturday, August 20 .
Many believe this has been Chiefs’ best ‘recruitment drive’ for quite some time, and there are talks that there could still be one or two more signings secured by Amakhosi before next season.
Interestingly, it’s been widely suggested that the Soweto giants are still actively pursuing three attacking options, and that one potential new signing could even be unveiled in the coming days.
In another article from Phakaaathi , Chiefs have apparently been offered Al Ahly’s Luis Miquissone , who has been placed on the transfer list of the Egypt club.
The Mozambican attacking midfielder is no stranger to South Africa, and notably had a stint with Sundowns before joining Simba SC in Tanzania, and then eventually heading to Al Ahly under Pitso Mosimane. Apparently, though, he may not be in the plans of new coach Ricardo Soares, and it will be interesting to see whether Chiefs might now pounce to sign him.
“The club from that side Kaizer Chiefs are said to be interested in him after the was offered to them and Al Ahly are open to the idea of selling him to them,” said the Phakaaathi source.
“There is also Simba who are interested in having him back. But Chiefs have an advantage because they want to sign him straight out while Simba wants him on loan.”
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that there has been a new twist in Kaizer Chiefs ‘ pursuit of DRC striker Fiston Mayele who currently plays for Young Africans of Tanzania.
Last week, reports emerged that Mayele was on his way to Naturena after agreeing a three-year deal with Chiefs . However, it appears the reports are not true after all as Yanga’s Signing Committee Engineer Hersi Ally told FARPost that Meyele is NOT for sale
The talented young striker has now confirmed he won’t be coming to South Africa.
“There was talk of Chiefs being interested in me, but there was never anything concrete,” Mayele told FARPost in an exclusive interview.
“I still have one year left on my contact with Yanga. I’m preparing to go on holiday in [Lubumbashi] DRC, and we should conclude when I return. But I’ll definitely be at Yanga next season,” he added.
A quality number nine signing is a priority for Amakhosi at this stage, so it will certainly be worthwhile to watch this space.
