Kaizer Chiefs Go Against Signing International Star.
Kaizer Chiefs are facing a goalkeeper crisis as they have failed to secure the services of Salim Magoola, who was offered to them by Richards Bay.
Goalkeeper crisis at Naturena
The Ugandan shot-stopper was a primary target for the Glamour Boys, who are struggling to find a reliable number one this season.
None of Itumeleng Khune, Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma have been convincing between the sticks for Amakhosi, for various reasons.
Petersen lost his place in the side in October after a string of high-profile errors, while club captain Khune is suspended after a breach of conduct.
Bvuma, meanwhile, has been inconsistent and prone to mistakes.
Foreign Quota Problem At Kaizer Chiefs
According to FarPost, the Natal Rich Boyz offered Magoola to Chiefs but the Naturena-based team couldn’t do a deal because it would have exceeded their foreign quota.
As things stand, Amakhosi have five foreign stars in their squad in the shape of Christian Saile, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Edson Castillo, Efmamjjasond Gonzalez and Edmilson Dove.
Magoola’s contract expires at the end of the season but Richards Bay want to exercise an extension option until June 2025.
They’d rather, however, cash in now rather than lose him on a free.
The Ugandan star was a key figure in 2022-23, winning the Player of the Month awards for September and October.
