Kaizer Chiefs Assistant Coach Arthur Zwane Explained Why Ngcobo Was Benched

In Chiefs’ 2-0 win over Maritzburg United on Wednesday, Kaizer Chiefs academy graduate come off the bench to score the game-winning goal, which lifted them to third place in the DStv Premiership table.

Ngcobo was one of the Glamour Boys’ bright spots last season under then-coach Gavin Hunt, but since Stuart Baxter returned to the club, his game time has been limited.

After scoring a magnificent long-range goal in Chiefs’ win against Sekhukhune United last week, Zwane explained why he hadn’t been playing much during the club’s Covid-19 outbreak.

He come in as a sub on Wednesday night.

“When you use a player of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s caliber, it depends on the approach of the opposition as to when you need him in the game.” He’s not a player who can fight for the ball or has the energy to fight for the ball,” Zwane told the media while Baxter was recovering from Covid.

“However, he is more of a thinker than a playmaker.” As you can see, he come to the party when we needed him today. He is the one who gave us that security goal, and he is a player who can swing the game in your favor because he is a smart player with game intelligence.”

Zwane stated that they were managing him, which is why he did not start the club’s third consecutive match in what has been a hectic final few weeks of the year.

“So, given that we used him in the previous two games and that we had to substitute him against Royal AM after roughly 70 minutes, we realized that if he started this game, he wouldn’t be as effective.” We left him on the bench because we knew he could be a key player for us,” the assistant coach added.

The skilled playmaker has five goals and three assists in 52 appearances since being promoted to the senior team.
