On Saturday evening, a local football club from Lulekani in Limpopo, Korea of God FC, was engaged in a horrific accident that killed two of their squad members and injured 22 others near Selwane Village in the Mopani district.

The team, which competes in the local SAFA LFA League in Lulekani, is thought to have been returning from a soccer competition when the driver of the overloaded Bakkie carrying 24 players lost control and flipped.

Farpost reports that Two players died at the spot, the driver and two others were seriously injured, while 19 others escaped with minor injuries.

The injured were sent to the Maphuta Malatji hospital.

SAFA Mopani President Vincent Ramphago said that the area is aware of the accident, but that the competition was not sanctioned by the football governing organization.

“These types of accidents have wreaked havoc on the region.” We always urge clubs and teams to participate in SAFA leagues. “I’m not saying there are no accidents or deaths in SAFA, but SAFA plays an important role in caring for athletes,” he stated.

“We also recommend teams to utilize safe cabs or autos to avoid overloading.” Our heartfelt condolences go out to the entire sad family. “I wish the injured people a swift recovery,” Ramphago concluded.
