Gavin Hunt uncovered some crucial details concerning Blom and Ngcobo.
Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt reveals some crucial key points About Njabulo Blom and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

Gavin Hunt believes that Njabulo Blom can play the role of six whilst Nkosingiphile Ngcobo lacks athleticism.

I get to Chiefs and I see this boy Blom,” Hunt said on KosiBay Talk with Luyolo.

“I see he’s got an engine. Very placid boy, needs to change, he needs desire to wanna win.

“If you look at the people we had in midfield, you had people… the legs were gone. To be fair they were a great service to the club but their legs were gone.”

The former Hellenic, Black Leopards, Moroka Swallows, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits coach, who’s won four PSL titles, added to stress how much Blom was not a defender in his eyes.

Blom came in, they told me he was a wing-back, a right-back, which is, for me, no, he’s midfield player,” Hunt added.

“He’s got energy, he’s got legs. Midfield players, modern midfield players goto go box to box and they goto close the space down both ways.

“When the ball goes forward, they goto close, when the ball goes over their head, they goto close again.

“So you need legs… and he can play a little bit. He is a player that you can sign two less players. You understand? Now that goes near my thinking.

“He can play three-four positions. Now you’re talking my language. So when I saw him, he was perfect,” the former Amakhosi coach concluded.

WHAT KAIZER CHIEFS’ NKOSINGIPHILE NGCOBO LACKS

Millions of Amakhosi fans continue to feel baffled on why Ngcobo doesn’t get a regular starting place. Gavin Hunt believes the little maestro simply lacks athleticism.

“He’s got so much ability,” Hunt said

“But his biggest problem is his athleticism, which is always going to be his big problem.

“He’s got to get fitter. And I don’t think he’s got the capacity to get up and down the pitch. So you goto try and use him in a way to get him close to the goal to make that final ball.

“That means you have to change, rearrange your team a little bit. You have to carry him a little bit. But he’s got the pass, he’s got the pass. He’s got the quality, he’s got that.

“He’s like Shakes Khungwane. Shakes Khungwane, you can play a 4-4-2, you can put him on the left he’s going to end up in a center position because he can’t defend, he can’t run.

“But get him on the ball, he will give you that pass.

Hunt added to say that he believes Stuart Baxter has been utilising and getting the best out of Ngcobo since replacing him at Kaizer Chiefs.

“Stuart has been good with him, he’s tried to put him in the team. That means you have to change your back three.

“You can’t play with a back four because then you have to carry him. So with a back-three, you can overload a little bit behind the striker and play him in there. Which is what they’ve done.”
