Ex-Sundowns star makes stronger push to buy Maritzburg United status.

A former Mamelodi Sundowns star has laid down his big plans and intensified his efforts to purchase the PSL status of Maritzburg United.

‘The Team of Choice’ is participating in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after being relegated from the DStv Premiership during the 2022/23 season.

In their first season in the second division, Maritzburg United finished fourth on the league table after collecting 46 points. They won 12 league games, drawing 10 while losing eight times 30 matches.

Maritzburg marginally missed out on the top three spots in the Championship to qualify for the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs

The KZN-based side was beaten to the second and third spot by AmaTuks and Baroka FC, while Magesi FC won the NFD title.

Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign, Bryce Moon has disclosed that he has revisited his plans to buy Maritzburg United.

Bryce Moon made an attempt to take ownership of Maritzburg last year, but the club management could only agree to a deal that will see the chairman, Farouk Kadodia, become a business partner with the 37-year-old retired attacker.

“I have big plans for Maritzburg United if I do take over. I wanna be the David Beckham of South Africa if I’m given a chance,” Moon said on MSW.

“We are back in those discussions now with Maritzburg United, and we will see what happens in the next two weeks. I want to own that team myself.”

The former Bafana Bafana international retired from professional football in 2017 after a successful career that began in 2004.

He played for clubs such as Ajax Cape Town, Golden Arrows, SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits, Platinum Stars, and Mamelodi Sundowns. Interestingly, Maritzburg was his last top-flight team in 2016 before hanging his boots. Per FarPost.
