Dr. John Garang University suspends students’ leadership.
The administration of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology on Thursday suspended the operations of the institution’s students’ union leadership over alleged “mismanagement of the union’s funds.”
Last week, a group of students accused its guild president of misappropriating SSP 900, 000 meant for the operation of the students’ body.
Speaking to the media from Bor town, Ngor Lual, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, confirmed the decision and said the matter was being handled administratively.
“These are just internal information that we are able to control within the university and it has not gone off our hands. If there are issues of alleged misappropriation of the union’s funds then we have modalities for us to follow up on the issue. That cannot bring chaos,” he said.
For his part, Ajith Solomon, the embattled president of the students’ union, dismissed the allegation that he had misappropriated the union’s resources.
“Of course, those allegations are there. We call them allegations because until the audit is done, this is when you could come up with a point that the funds were wrongly used and if you said the funds were wrongly used this means they were used for what they are not intended for,” he said.
