Chiefs Favourites In Securing Teenager, Rivals Keep Close Watch

The Kaizer Chiefs have emerged as the favourites to sign a young potential for next season, despite reports that their DStv Premiership opponents are also keeping an eye on him.

Amakhosi has shown interest in 19-year-old defender Rushwin Dortley of Cape Town Spurs in the GladAfrica Championship and could make a move for him at the end of the season, according to reports.

Chiefs are seeking to reduce the average age of their squad, as acknowledged by sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr recently, so pursuing Dortley would plainly demonstrate the club’s desire to begin preparing for the future.

Accourding to Soccer Laduma Premier Soccer League clubs are keeping an eye on the defender, who is best suited as a left-sided centre back but can also play left back if necessary.

When the FIFA embargo was ultimately lifted at the start of the season, Amakhosi were able to recruit nine new players, allowing the club to bring in new blood at the same time as coach Stuart Baxter’s return for a second spell.

When it comes to prospective acquisitions, the Glamour Boys have already signed AmaZulu midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe on a pre-contract starting July 1, but they want to bring in youngsters who are much younger.

It’s unclear if Chiefs will eventually win the race for Dortley in the coming months, with their opponents certain to be on the lookout for the greatest talent in the country at the end of the season in May.

However, sources in the Mother City claim that the Soweto giants are the frontrunners.
