Cape Town City set to hijack Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates transfer target.
Having just qualified for the CAF Champions League , Cape Town City could be set for some big name signings.
City appear to be attempting to shake things up by targeting a Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates midfielder. Cape Town City will compete in the CAF Champions League after clinching a historic CAF Champions League qualification on Friday evening with a 2-2 draw against Royal AM at the Chatsworth Stadium. If Twihlitwahla and the Buccaneers had won their remaining games, they would have finished with the same points as the Citizen. If it had come to that, goal difference would have been used to potentially separate the three sides.
However, neither Royal AM nor Pirates were able to finish the season with more than 47 points, leaving them two points behind the now-qualified City. Now that they’ve won that qualification, it appears like City are ready to show off their continental prowess by pursuing players of the caliber that Chiefs and Pirates might be looking for next season. Former Citizen Ayanda Patosi is thought to be one of the players.
After spending the last couple of years abroad, Patosi, a Cape Town native, would be open to the thought of returning home. Giving Patosi the opportunity to prove himself on the continent could also provide City with an advantage that neither the Chiefs nor the Pirates can provide. Citizens are keeping an eye on the player, but they aren’t the only ones, according to Soccer-Laduma.
“Ayanda (Patosi) has done exceptionally well and has impressed Foolad who are keen to offer him a new contract. It’s something that is being discussed though no decision has been reached thus far,” said a source to the same publication. It went on to state the interest shown by City in Patosi’s services.
“As confirmed by the source, City who will be playing in Africa next season either in the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup respectively are monitoring the situation closely and keen to bring the player (Patosi) back to the Mother City should an opportunity arise.”
