Buccaneers | Latest Updates On Evidence Makgopa’s return.
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has given an update on Evidence Makgopa, who is yet to feature in the team after making the switch from relegated Baroka.
Makgopa has been one of the most promising youngsters in the league for the past few seasons, also making appearances in the national teams with the belief that he may become one of the top strikers in the country.
The 22-year-old even attracted overseas interest before moving to the Buccaneers.
Interestingly, despite creating many chances, the Soweto giants have been struggling to score goals this season.
The situation has raised concerns as they only managed to get three goals and only one from a striker – Bienvenu Eva Nga.
The absence of Makgopa has been noticed, with many asking questions about him as he has yet to make an appearance for the Mighty Bucs.
On Wednesday, after the win against Royal AM, Pirates mentor Riveiro gave an update on the youngster. He revealed that it might take some time before the supporters see their new striker playing.
“He is injured since I’ve arrived; he was injured during the pre-season; I can’t say much for now,” the Spaniard said on Wednesday.
On Friday, he added at a Pirates media event: “He is a young player with huge potential. He has something difficult to find, which is the capacity to score goals.”
“We need to help him to perform in a structure. He is surrounded by good players, which will help him in the future.
“We are looking to seeing him on the field. Hopefully, he can be on the field.”
On Sunday, Riveiro hopes his attackers start scoring those goals against struggling SuperSport United.
The match against Matsatsantsa is expected to be tricky as coach Gain Hunt will be looking to record his first win after his return from the dugout and with Pretoria’s side.
Previously, he built a considerable reputation for himself by winning three league titles.
