Benni McCarthy Disclosed Bongani Sam’s Dissatisfaction With The Orlando Pirates.

Benni McCarthy has addressed the circumstances about Orlando Pirates defender Bongani Sam’s communication with him over a possible move to AmaZulu.

McCarthy was asked about the alleged touch made by the Buccaneers left-back after Usuthu earned a historic CAF Champions League victory over Horoya on Friday night at Moses Mabhida Stadium. According to Lorenzo Köhler

While he conceded that he misspoke when asked about being associated with Bongani Zungu, he stated that Pirates had rejected their request for Sam.

“Yes, I’m a great fan of the young guy,” McCarthy explained, “but I think there was a confusion since the question was about Bongani Zungu and I misheard and thought I heard Bongani Sam.”

“I was intrigued in the player, but Pirates made it obvious that he wasn’t going anywhere; there’s nothing I can do when a player messages you and says he wants to come play for you.” However, you must respect the club for which he plays. McCarthy has questioned why the Soweto giants rejected his offers, which he believes would have been mutually beneficial.

Innocent Maela and Paseka Mako, who are both ahead of him in the pecking order, are vying for a berth on the team.

“It doesn’t mean it will happen,” McCarthy continued, “but it will drop on my lap if there is any breaking news, and I’ll be the first to know because I’m a huge fan of the player.”

“I just thought, you know what, we can do them a favor and play the boy, and he adds value to our squad, builds momentum, and returns to Pirates in better shape next season.”

“I saw it as a win-win situation, but they weren’t willing to part ways with the player, which I can understand if you harm the guy’s career a little bit, but instead of him moving somewhere else and playing and being happy, you hurt his career a little bit.”
