Asamoah Gyan Hit On Ghana After Being Booted Out Of AFCON

Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer, has expressed his disappointment at the Black Stars’ early exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana was eliminated from the tournament on Tuesday evening with one point after a 3-2 loss to tournament newcomers Comoros Islands.

It was the very first AFCON. Since making his international debut in 2003, Gyan has not been a part of the squad.

After the loss to Comoros, he commented on SuperSport TV, “I’m devastated, I’m astonished.”

“You can’t win a game with this mindset; we saw the real Ghana when we were reduced to ten men; they attempted to give everything they had, which was admirable but insufficient.”

“We didn’t have a sense of urgency throughout the competition; we only had ten players; I’m annoyed; why do you have to push when you only have ten men instead of 11?”

“I’m not sure what you’re talking about… It’s one of those things, and I’ve been in the game for a long time. I’m dissatisfied because we didn’t play with conviction or ambition.

“I don’t know what more to say. We lost, we’re going home, and everyone in Ghana will be sad, but honestly, what is Algeria doing right now if we go home? They create opportunities but lose the game.

“However, we didn’t generate opportunities, we didn’t achieve anything, and we’re leaving.” People will be disappointed if you don’t provide them with something to speak about.

“How will people feel back home if we don’t offer them anything to speak about?” We should not have gone out, and we did not see the Ghana we are familiar with.”

In 109 caps for the senior Ghana national team, the 36-year-old scored 51 goals while appearing in eight straight AFCONs.
