Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane receives praise from Jomo Sono for his success with his new team.
Jomo Sono says his former player Pitso Mosimane’s success does not surprise him, adding that Mosimane has always known what he wants in life.
Mosimane, probably Africa’s most successful coach, began his professional football career at the age of 16 with Jomo Cosmos, where he was coached by Sono.
This, of course, came after a brilliant stint at SuperSport United, where he worked as an assistant and then as the head coach of Bafana Bafana, before his historic run with Mamelodi Sundowns.
When he went to coaching, the famous Sono, who is widely regarded as South Africa’s finest ever footballer, became known as a producer of excellent players.
When Mosimane’s agency, MT Sports, paid him a visit recently to honor him as part of the #PitsoWaLeboga tour, Sono was overjoyed.
Sono recently told iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu that he is not shocked by Pitso’s achievement since he knows what Mosimane has wanted since he was a child.
“Pitso is composed. “He knew what he wanted out of life,” Sono
“This is critical if you know what you want out of life.” And he’s always been like that, knowing exactly what he wanted in life. That’s the distinction. It comes as no surprise. I’m not surprised or shocked.
“Ever since he was a small child, at the age of 16, he was haughty and obstinate, you know, very, very obstinate.” You can’t change Pitso’s mind if he thinks what he believes.”
Mosimane is poised to lead Al Ahly in the CAF Super Cup this week, where he will attempt to add to his and the Egyptian club’s trophy collection.
