Al Ahly legend Emad Meteb says he loves head coach Pitso Mosimane and it’s impossible to criticise the South African now.
Meteb, who won 10 league titles and five CAF Champions League winners medals with Ahly was quoted as saying that Mosimane wasted a chance to secure a record victory over Zamalek after leading 5-1 in the Cairo Derby before their eventual 5-3 victory.
His comments went viral in Egyptian media but he’s since cleared the air claiming it wasn’t criticism, as he’s a huge fan of the former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician.
“I didn’t say that Mosimane didn’t play a big game against Zamalek,” Meteb said on the Number 10 TV show, as per KingFut.
“Mosimane always appears well in the big games. He managed 70 minutes on the tactical level brilliantly against Zamalek and stopped them from creating any dangerous chances.
“It was normal in the last minutes and after Badr Benoun’s injury and the wrong choices in the substitutions, Zamalek would press to score two goals and reduce the scoreline to 5-3.
“I said that through the substitutions, Mosimane should have maintained the same shape and identity of the team to increase the number of goals, because this generation had the opportunity to achieve a historic result.
“On the personal level, I love Pitso Mosimane very much. He is highly skilled and it’s impossible to criticize him at all. A coach that won by five goals, how could I criticise him?
“All I was thinking was to achieve an unprecedented historic achievement against Zamalek and break the 6-1 result.”
Mosimane’s is currently in South Africa during the FIFA International break and will return to Cairo on Thursday to resume first-team training with the remaining members of the squad.
